Armed robbery at Costa Coffee in Burton

Police car roof lights

An investigation is underway following an armed robbery at the Costa Coffee shop in Eastern Avenue, Burton-upon-Trent last night. (12 June)

We were called at 8.50pm reporting that a man armed with what was possibly a BB gun entered the coffee shop through a rear door and threatened staff, before forcing them to hand over cash from the till and safe.

Nobody was hurt during the robbery but staff and customers were understandably left shaken and upset.

The robber is described as a black man in his late teens or early 20s. He was dressed all in black and wore a balaclava and one white glove.

He made off from the scene on foot along Derby Road before being picked up by a waiting car in Brindley Way. The car, which is believed to be a new shape white BMW 1 Series, is then thought to have headed towards the A38.

Any witnesses or anyone with CCTV or dash cam footage that may help with our investigation is asked to call 101 and quote incident number 817 of 12 June.
