Two arrested following armed robbery

Two men have been arrested following an armed robbery in Fenton last night (15 May).

At around 8.50pm, officers were called to reports of an armed robbery taking place at the Premier Shop on Whieldon Road. Two offenders wearing balaclavas had entered the store, armed with a knife, and threatened a member of staff.

A member of the public bravely intervened, detaining one of the men until officers arrived. Fortunately no one was injured, but staff and customers were understandably left shaken.

An 18-year-old man from Stoke-on-Trent was arrested at the scene on suspicion of armed robbery and a knife was recovered nearby.

A short while later, a vehicle failed to stop for officers on Sutherland Road, and after a brief pursuit, the driver fled but was quickly caught up with by officers.

A 28-year-old man from Stoke-on-Trent was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and armed robbery.

At this time they both remain in custody.
