Protection From Harassment Act

Under the Protection from Harassment Act 1997 it is a criminal offence for a person to pursue a course of conduct which amounts to the harassment of another. This could include sending a person multiple abusive emails with the intention of causing alarm or distress. A person found guilty of this offence could receive up to six months imprisonment, a financial penalty or both.

The Malicious Communication Act

Any person who sends to another person a letter, electronic communication or article of any description which conveys a message which is indecent or grossly offensive or is a threat can be punished by up to two years in prison and/or a fine.
