Burglary charge for Biddulph man

Offender in handcuffs

A Biddulph man has been charged following a burglary at a property in Kidsgrove at the weekend.

Andrew Baker, aged 29, of Lynmouth Close, is charged with one count of burglary dwelling and theft.

During Saturday's incident Baker attempted to evade officers by jumping into the Trent and Mersey Canal and making his way into the Harecastle Tunnel. He was removed from the tunnel by colleagues from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service and received treatment at the scene by West Midlands Ambulance before being taken to hospital.

Baker will appear at North Staffordshire Justice Centre in Newcastle-under-Lyme on 26 September.
