Three men in custody following disorder and threats on social media

We have arrested three men as part of ongoing investigations into an incident of disorder in south Staffordshire which was released on social media.

Last night (August 11) we executed three search warrants at addresses in Stoke-on-Trent and three men were arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and violent disorder.

The men, aged 26, 32 and 34, were arrested in Stoke-on-Trent but all come from the South Yorkshire area.

We received initial reports of disorder at a travellers' site in Coven Heath, south Staffordshire, on Thursday evening (August 10).

We were made aware of the incident, which was subsequently posted on social media, and have completed a number of searches of addresses and vehicles across Staffordshire.

We are also working closely with our colleagues in South Yorkshire Police.

Detective Superintendent Steve Morrey, of Staffordshire Police's Force Safeguarding and Investigation (South), said: "We'd like to be clear to our communities that we have plans in place to offer reassurance through increased patrols at locations across the County. Due to the nature of offences that have taken place we continue to monitor social media sites.

"We have acted swiftly to detain suspects and will not tolerate threats and this kind of disorder in Staffordshire. We will do all we can to protect victims, members of the public and our communities."

"The investigation is being led by detectives and we are appealing for anyone with information in relation to these matters to come forward to help us send a very clear message to individuals who want to engage in this kind of criminal behaviour."

Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 101 quoting incident number 891 of August 10, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
