Prevent

Prevent1Prevent is the Government's strategy to stop people becoming Terrorists or supporting Terrorism in all its forms. It's about working together to build stronger, safer communities.

Prevent works at a pre-criminal stage by using early intervention to encourage individuals and communities to challenge extremists and terrorist ideology and behaviour.

The strategy makes clear the importance of the role that public authorities have to play in achieving these aims. It is an extension of the safeguarding process in the same ways that authorities help to safeguard people from CSE, gang violence, or substance misuse.

Prevent is about encouraging people to talk and to challenge their concerns. Not to be afraid to have a conversation.

Terrorists can come from and target any background, any community, any religion or faith. They can be young or old, male or female. They use distorted views and beliefs in order to groom people into doing things for them. It is a form of bullying.

Young people are particularly vulnerable to being drawn into terrorism.

Terrorist target the young as they are willing to listen, they seek adventure and they are often very comfortable in challenging authority due to the learning process. They promise young people great rewards and play on their easily influenced state of minds for their own gain.
