Mark Thorley

Staffordshire Moorlands Local Policing Team Commander.

Mark is Stoke-on-Trent born, went to school on the Moorlands and has in the past, prior to joining the police, also worked on the Moorlands.

His career with Staffordshire Police began in 1997 when he was posted to front-line policing at Newcastle and then Kidsgrove.

In 2001 Mark moved to intelligence led policing still in North Staffordshire, where he specialised in covert policing.

Following a period of acting duties as Detective Sergeant in 2006, Mark was promoted and posted to Newcastle as a front-line response Sergeant; returning to covert policing a year later.

In 2011 Mark chose to move back to front-line policing as a Sergeant at Longton and then Hanley.

In 2013 he took on the challenge of Detective Sergeant in the Anti-Corruption Unit; putting measures in place to prevent corruption as well as investigating criminality and misconduct within the police service. During his time in the ACU he was responsible for creating force policy regarding whistleblowing.

Following promotion in 2015, he served as CADRE Inspector, initially in the South of the County and then the North.

Accredited as a Detective and Tactical Firearms Commander; Mark's recent role as the Force Duty Officer within the Control Room saw him command successful deployments of armed officers throughout the County.

Following his recent success as Staffordshire Moorlands Local Policing Team Commander, Mark looks forward to dealing with what matters to the Moorlands community, preventing crime and disorder and bringing offenders to justice.
