Information on Deputy Chief Constable (DCC) Nick Baker.

DCC Nick BakerNick is responsible for the following functions:


Nick began his career with the force in 1987 and has worked throughout the county of Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent, predominantly as a Detective and within specialist units.

Nick was promoted to the rank of Inspector in 2001 and spent time seconded to the Government Office for the West Midlands before taking up the role of Local Policing Unit Commander at Wombourne.

In 2002, Nick took up the post of Detective Inspector for Chase Division before being promoted to Detective Chief Inspector and serving as the Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) in the force's Major Investigation Department (MID), where he investigated numerous murders and serious complex crimes.

During his time as a SIO Nick led the high-profile enquiry into the desecration of Gladys Hammond's grave in Yoxall by animal rights extremists. He also investigated organised crime groups involved with high-value VAT fraud in North Staffordshire.

He took up the role of Superintendent for North Staffordshire Division before moving to Chase Division in January 2008. He was promoted to Chief Superintendent and Divisional Commander for Chase Division in May 2008.

In 2010 he became Detective Chief Superintendent, head of Investigative Services. In 2012 took up the role of Assistant Chief Constable with responsibility for Investigative Services and in 2014 was promoted to DCC.

Nick is also the Strategic Firearms and Public Order Commander.

Role with National Police Chiefs Council.

Nick is also the national policing lead for Digital Forensics and Technical Surveillance.

These portfolios strive to unify digital forensic and technical surveillance capabilities, practice and standards across law enforcement enabling faster and more effective justice for victims and witnesses.
