Governance and Development

The Governance team supports the organisation in the many key areas of business. Including the understanding of the direction of the national agenda through environmental scanning and managing the program of HMIC inspection to continually improve the way in which we deliver services.

  • By managing the publication and review of strategy, policy and procedure to ensure that all members of staff have timely access to the operational information they need when they need it and that the information is up to date and easy to understand.
  • By managing force-level risks effectively in order to protect employees and the community and to enable the force to achieve its strategic objectives, as set out in the Policing Plan.

Main areas dealt with by the team are:

  • Action Planning - the Action Planning system is designed to streamline the process for updating and monitoring actions. Force level actions are currently scrutinised by the Deputy Chief Constable on a bi-monthly basis.
  • Environmental Scanning - this is a process of gathering, analysing and dispensing information for tactical or strategic purposes.
  • Force Inspections - eg. HMIC (Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary).
  • Force Policy Database - the database accommodates all force policies and procedures as well as protocols and National guidance (eg. Home Office, National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC). There's also a link to Authorised Professional Practice.
  • Risk Management - this deals with whole escalation process as well as details of the Risk Management Group, Risk Matrix and the various definitions of roles and responsibilities.
