Operational Business Systems Unit

The Business Systems Unit maintains responsibility for policy matters, developing policy based on the present and future needs of Staffordshire Police.

Office block blueStaff within the unit offer advice and guidance on any area of policy that they have responsibility for and have links to other forces, government departments, other statutory organisations and non-statutory organisations who may be able to offer assistance regarding these areas of policy.

The department is also responsible for overseeing and implementing projects as well as management and administration of Operational Services' technology systems and applications of the following:

  • NSPIS
  • Property Management System
  • STORM
  • Warrants
  • Community Resolution Database

As well as exploring technology developments and finding IT solutions to problems using existing systems.

Some of the roles the team carry out are:

  • conducting monitoring
  • dip sampling
  • data quality checks
  • audits
  • production of user guides, providing advice and guidance to users

In addition to this they also deal with the following key areas:

  • Identifying knowledge gaps of frontline officers in delivering Operational Services - working with Learning and Development to improve training for new recruits and Sergeant Development Courses.
  • Youth Justice and Youth Offending, including management of seconded Youth Offending Team Police Officers.
  • Offender Management and re-offending.
  • Custody and safer detention, including Independent Custody Visitors and interpreters.
  • Out of Court Disposals (Community Resolution, Penalty Notice for Disorder, Cannabis Warnings, Reprimands, Final Warnings, Simple Cautions, Conditional Cautions, Street Bail).
  • Environmental Scanning.

The unit also provides a dedicated 'continuous improvement' team for Operational Services.
