Dealing with a Conditional/Course Offer

A Conditional Offer is received once you have returned your Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP).

You CANNOT deal with a Conditional Offer before you have completed and returned your Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP). After this, you will receive a Conditional Offer in the post.

You are also REQUIRED to send your driving licence or copy of non UK licence, to the Payment Office in Loughborough.

If a conditional offer is paid the course offer will be withdrawn automatically.

Here are the three possible outcomes once you have returned the NIP and received the Conditional Offer.

1. Speed Awareness Course

You can only take a Speed Awareness Course if you have been offered one as part of your Conditional Offer.

If you are eligible for a speed awareness course with no points to be added on your licence, you will be notified in writing.

The Speed Awareness Course fee is £80, and you will receive 0 points on your driving licence.

If you have been offered the speed awareness course please:

The course needs to be booked within 28 days of the offer letter and completed by 5 months from the date of offence.

To book your Speed Awareness course online, click here.

You must have either:

  • a current photo card licence or
  • a current paper licence and another form of official photo ID eg passport

If you are from outside Staffordshire, you may take this course anywhere in the country. To check availability, please call 0300 111 8012.

2. Pay the Fine & Receive Points

If you have accepted and returned the NIP, then you may begin to pay the fine.

You CANNOT deal with a Conditional Offer before you have completed and returned your Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP). After this, you will receive a Conditional Offer in the post.

Note: You are also REQUIRED to send your driving licence or copy of non UK licence, to the Payment Office in Loughborough.

To complete the payment online, follow this link: penaltynotice.direct.gov.uk and enter the details of your NIP.

Please Note: There are no discounts for Fixed Penalty Offences. If you decide to use an unofficial website (any site other than penaltynotice.direct.gov.uk), you do so at your own risk.

You may be putting your payment details at risk and ultimately the ticket will not be paid - HM Courts & Tribunals Service will not be liable if you use an unofficial website.
