Mark joined Staffordshire Police in 1983.
He began his career with the force at Stoke before moving onto become a detective constable at Longton in 1990, followed by promotion to sergeant at Biddulph in 1991 and then a move to Burslem.
Whilst based at Burslem he was made a detective sergeant in 1994 before a move into covert policing at Hanley in 1999.
In 2005 he took on inspector duties in the Incident Management Unit, followed by a promotion to Inspector at the force's Northern Area Custody Facility (NACF) at Etruria.
Inspector Hardern then returned to Hanley in January 2007 to become the crime bureau manager for Stoke-on-Trent Division, before taking on his latest role in Tunstall.
Inspector Hardern has a number of family connections to Tunstall, and knows the area very well.
He is married with two children and outside of work is involved in sports activities, including rugby and tennis.

- when prompted enter their Airwave number (shown below their photo)
- a recorded message asks you to 'state your name so the call can be announced' - just say your name so the commander knows who's calling
If they are on duty, their radio rings like a mobile phone and you'll be connected. If they're off duty or unavailable, your call goes to their individual voicemail box.
