Staffordshire Police is appealing for witnesses following an incident at the Britannia Stadium, Stoke-on-Trent, on Saturday 6 February.
John Steven Taylor, aged 30, from Darwen in Lancashire, died at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire in the early hours of Sunday 7 February, following the incident in the concourse area of the stadium's South Stand.
A Home Office post mortem established the cause of death was due to a head injury.
A 25-year-old man from Preston, who was arrested in connection with the incident, has been bailed, pending further inquiries.
Staffordshire Police is appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have videoed it on their mobile phone, to contact the Major Investigations Department on 01785 233600, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
