United by Faith
Around 400 representatives from Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent’s faith communities gathered at Trentham Gardens on 21 October 2009 for an evening of networking, speeches and entertainment entitled United by Faith.
“United by Faith was the first time a police force had organised a multi-faith event and it went really well,” said Chief Inspector Phil Fortun who co-ordinated and hosted the evening. “It was staged to try and help improve police engagement with people from different faiths and beliefs and everyone who attended seemed to enjoy themselves. The feedback we’ve had so far has been really positive.
“We want to underline the fact that this was not just a one-off event,” continued Chief Inspector Fortun. “This is the start of something that we hope will continue and develop over time.
Our speakers came from different faiths and beliefs and yet they all had a similar message.
“Now that we’ve staged the launch event, we will build on the goodwill and contacts that were established on the night. It makes sense for us to work together as we often have common goals. I hope we can encourage people from different faith communities to come together and be inspired about what’s happening with faith groups and with neighbourhood policing both locally and nationally and share their thoughts on how we can work together to make our communities safer.
If you, or any members of your group/community would like to contact the United by Faith team, you can do so by emailing unitedbyfaith@staffordshire.pnn.police.uk (Opens in new window) or by calling 01785 232350.
Following on from the success of the event, a quarterly newsletter has been produced. Issue 1 is available now.
