Nominate a Neighbour

Nominate a Neighbour (NAN) has one simple aim - to help the older and more vulnerable within our communities feel safer in dealing with unwanted or unexpected people who call at the homes of older and vulnerable people within our communities.

Good neighbourliness is at the heart of our scheme which requires a neighbour to manage doorstep enquiries for a nearby older resident. This means those people who feel uncomfortable about opening the door to an unknown caller no longer have to quiz that person on their doorstep and risk becoming a victim of a bogus official or fraudulent tradesman.

So that customers can confirm that their employees are genuine, utility companies have set up the Priority Service Register and Password Scheme. You can find out more about this service by calling the Home Heat Helpline ( 0800 33 66 99). This is a free phone advice and information service run by the Energy Retail Association.

If you are uncertain, or have any doubts about the identity of callers, contact the police immediately.

Telephone:  0300 123 4455 or if you require urgent assistance 999.
