Neighbourhood Watch
Joining an existing scheme in your area
If there's an established local scheme in your neighbourhood and you're interested in joining as a new member here are suggestions on how you can contribute.
Members volunteer to help make their neighbourhood a better, safer and more secure place to live. Generally this involves:
- receiving and transferring information between scheme members
- helping to distribute written crime updates, newsletters, or other information as soon as possible after receipt
- attending scheme meetings
- looking after neighbours' properties when they are away, even for short periods, to help homes look lived-in
- assisting the police prevent and detect crime by remaining observant and reporting suspicious activity
- liaising with co-ordinators on all matters of concern
- relaying information about crimes committed against members of adjoining schemes
- notifying adjoining members of successes whenever possible
- recruiting new neighbours
- marking property with postcodes and house numbers
