Transphobic crime

What is a transphobic incident?

Transphobia is the fear or hatred of a person who identifies themselves as a person of the opposite gender.

Staffordshire Police works closely with lesbian, gay, bisexual communities. Our police officers will provide you with a professional service that is sensitive and without prejudice.

The police are committed to reducing all crimes of hate including transphobic crime. To achieve this they need your help.

Firstly, the police need to know and understand the scale of the problem. This means the police need victims and witnesses to tell the police about incidents.

Secondly, the police need intelligence – information on transphobic activity – so that they can develop plans to tackle problems and reduce transphobic incidents.

Staffordshire Police has a number of specialist staff within the force who are dedicated to helping and supporting those experiencing problems. They are available to discuss any concerns and available options and suggest other agencies that can provide support. They will also work in partnership with the investigating officers throughout the investigation. Call 101 and ask for your local hate crime officer, or email them at
