Homophobic crime

What is a homophobic incident?

Homophobia is the fear or hatred of a person who is gay or bisexual. You don’t have to be gay or bisexual to be a victim.
Staffordshire Police works closely with lesbian, gay, bisexual communities. Our police officers will provide you with a professional service that is sensitive and without prejudice.

The police are committed to reducing all crimes of hate including homophobic crime. To achieve this the police need your help.
Firstly, the police need to know and understand the scale of the problem. This means victims and witnesses need to tell the police about incidents.

Secondly the police need intelligence – information on homophobic activity – so that they can develop plans to tackle problems and prevent homophobic incidents.

Staffordshire Police has a number of specialist staff who are dedicated to helping and supporting those experiencing problems. They are available to discuss any concerns and available options and suggest other agencies that can provide support. They will also work in partnership with the investigating officers throughout the investigation Call 101 and ask for your local hate crime officer, or email them at hatecrimeteam@staffordshire.pnn.police.uk
