JIGSAW
JIGSAW - Justice Information Guide Supporting and Advising Witnesses - is a ‘one stop’ product to help victims and witnesses work their way through the criminal justice processes.
It comes in the form of a DVD with an accompanying booklet. It’s fronted by journalist and television presenter Dermot Murnaghan who currently presents Sky News and the popular BBC2 quiz show Eggheads.
It’s been produced to improve the quality of service given to victims and witnesses to ensure that the information they’re given is clear, consistent and comprehensive.
It has four chapter headings:
- Supporting you during an investigation
- Going to court
- Justice working for you
- Useful information.
The first three sections are filmed sequences that have a combined running time of 30 minutes. The useful information chapter is an interactive series of text screens to provide the viewer with further information or contact details for support services.
Supporting you during an investigation
This section highlights the role of the police from the moment an incident’s reported, through to a suspect being caught and charged with a crime.
Going to court
This shows the different types of court where a case may be heard.
Justice working for you
This incorporates court sentencing, compensation and identifies different parts of the Criminal Justice Service and charities that provide continued service and support for victims and witnesses.
Useful information
This is divided into: Service Standards, Hate Crime and Domestic Abuse, and Reference Guide - including a glossary of terms and frequently asked questions.
Why has the JIGSAW DVD been produced?
JIGSAW is being introduced to improve our service to victims and witnesses and to help deliver that service in a quick and more effective way.
