Reducing Business Crime
Anti-social behaviour
Anti-social behaviour (ASB) covers a very wide range of different types of nuisance which cause harassment, alarm or distress.
Typically businesses are likely to be affected by:
- graffiti and/or damage to their premises
- rowdy or other nuisance behaviour either inside or immediately outside their business
- drunken/drug induced behaviour
- noise
- littering
- problems with inconsiderate/dangerous parking.
These sorts of problems can be very damaging to businesses. They can reduce profits and damage morale as well as causing distress to employees and the public alike.
Where ASB is common, it has also been linked to an increase in more serious and/or repeat offences in the same area.
If an incident is in progress, then report it immediately through the force single non-emergency number – 101. In addition the force has a number of dedicated ASB officers who will be happy to talk to you about longer-term solutions to ongoing problems around your business.
There are a number of options that can be explored – enforcement, such as anti-social behaviour contracts and orders, is just one possibility which can be looked at.
Staffordshire Police believes in partnership working. Through the crime and disorder reduction partnerships (CDRP) (Opens in new window) a lot is done to promote community cohesion and divert those at risk of falling into ASB into more positive activities.
There are also regular partnership initiatives where areas which experience high-levels of ASB are targeted for clean-ups and enforcement action.
