Professional Standards

The department aims to promote, throughout Staffordshire Police, a culture of integrity, ethical behaviour and professional standards. It is responsible for investigating complaints against the police by the public. It also deals with internal allegations of misconduct.

Professional standards has an anti-corruption unit which is managed by a senior detective and an information security and compliance team whose work includes the daily monitoring of force information systems.

Any member of the public can speak to the PSD or leave a message on the confidential hotline via 101. They can also call Crimestoppers, anonymously and in confidence, on 0800 555 111.

Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC)

The IPCC's job is to make sure that complaints against the police are dealt with effectively.

Police can refer cases involving their officers or staff voluntarily to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) although referrals in some instances are mandatory. The IPCC can also direct a force to make a referral.
