BikeSafe

Welcome to Staffordshire Police Road Policing Team BikeSafe calendar for 2012.

Staffordshire Police are extremely pleased to be able to continue there support for the BikeSafe initiative.

Casualty reduction remains one of our highest priorities for the force and we believe that further training is the most effective way of reducing casualties on our roads.

In support of this  we continue to be one of the only forces in the UK to offer a free two hour course that includes a (DVD) digital video disc presentation and assessed ride.

The aim for Staffordshire Police Bikesafe Team is to show you the benefits of riding to a system and encourage you to seek further training from our partner agencies.

This will help to build up your knowledge and riding skills also result in you becoming a more confident and safer rider.

This will be done by demonstrating the main skills we use in the Police Motorcycle training program that can be passed onto yourselves and used in everyday life.

This will help reduce your risks of having a serious accident by altering your thought process and encouraging you to take a few simple steps when approaching any hazard.

In the initial discussion session we give you an insight into our training system looking at Information, Position, Speed, Gear and Acceleration, all of which run through every stage of our riding.

This will include a DVD presentation that was produced for BikeSafe that shows good examples of how to, and how not to do things as well as showing you the possible consequences of bad judgement.

The DVD will cover, hazard awareness, positioning, filtering, junctions cornering and overtaking.

These areas have all been linked to the majority of road traffic collisions involving motorcycles and therefore worthy of discussion.

After the discussion you get the opportunity to have a one to one assessment ride with a qualified Police Motorcyclist riding a marked Police Motorcycle, they will follow you for in the region of 25 miles around the local area covering most types of road styles monitoring your ride.

At the culmination of the course you will be given constructive feedback both positive and negative where required, with information on how you can obtain further rider training. The officer will then present you with a certificate of completion of the Bikesafe course to commemorate the occasion.

Remember we are like minded individuals who have a keen interest in Motorcycling and will make you feel comfortable and welcome at all times, we are there to help you!!

These sessions are open to any rider whether you just use your bike for commuting to work on a daily basis or use it for recreation on a Sunday afternoon. The only thing that we ask is that you hold a full motorcycle licence, certificate of Insurance to cover for the bike your riding and that said bike is road legal with you wearing suitable protective equipment.

Each session will last two hours in total with a maximum of 5 riders per session so there will be no peer pressure to perform or to ride outside your ability.
