Racist and Religious

Just over one million people live in Staffordshire. The ethnic minority population of the county numbers approximately 20,000 – 1.9 per cent of the total population. Staffordshire Police has been working for some time to establish closer links with the entire community.

Our ‘problem-solving’ and locally based approach to policing have helped us to make great progress towards realising this goal.

What is a racist incident?

'Any incident which is perceived to be racist by the victim or any other person.'

What is a religious incident?

'Any incident which is perceived to be based upon prejudice towards or hatred of the faith of the victim or so perceived by the victim or any other person.'

Help us to help you… Staffordshire Police is committed to eradicating all crimes of hate including racist crime. To achieve this we need your help.

Firstly, we need to know the scale of the problem. This means we need victims and witnesses to tell us about incidents.

Secondly, we need intelligence – information on racist activity – so we can develop plans to stamp out racist incidents and, where possible, take preventative steps to avoid problem escalating.
