Vulnerable family or neighbours

If you concerned about a family member, friend or neighbour

  • Talk to them about the stop, chain, check message
  • Look at their home security - do they have a chain and a spy hole in the door? Do they know how to use them?
  • If you are concerned their home is not secure enough, then contact the local crime reduction officer at Staffordshire Police on 101. The local council or housing association may also be able to provide and/or fit door bars etc
  • Offer to pop round if they need support when they have a visitor - make sure they have your contact number by the phone/programmed into it
  • If they have already been a victim of either an attempted or actual distraction burglary which they haven't reported to police, then encourage them to come forward.
What you can do to make your community safer
  • consider joining or setting up a Neighbourhood Watch or residents' group in the area you live. It's a good way of working together to make your community safer -crime prevention officer or the council?s community safety officer will be able to tell you more
  • be a good neighbour - if you see anything in your local area relating to the welfare of a vulnerable person which worries you, check it out. If you are still concerned, contact the police
