Project Griffin
About Project Griffin
In 2004, the City of London Police and the Metropolitan Police Service in conjunction with the security industry jointly launched Project Griffin. Currently, over 3000 personnel across the capital have attended awareness days with the project now being rolled out by forces across the UK.
In March 2007, the Staffordshire launch of Project Griffin took place, attended by over 120 delegates representing the major public and private sector businesses and organisations throughout the County.
At this one day seminar, attendees were given an overview of the Project Griffin programme, with inputs on:
- The history of terrorism and recent incidents
- The current terrorist threat
- Explosive devices and bomb disposal teams
- Legislation, cordons and forensic awareness
- Business crime reduction opportunities
- Maximising security systems and processes
- Avoiding the risk of arson
As a result, security and other public and private sector employees working within Staffordshire will now be taking part in Project Griffin.
Project Griffin consists of three strands
- A counter terrorism and business crime reduction awareness day
- A weekly conference call, which will outline the current terrorist threat level and local crime trends
- Assisting with cordon management in the event of a major incident
Inspector Carl Ratcliffe of the Project Griffin team adds:
‘ Every terrorist attack requires a great deal of planning and preparation. The business community and other private or public sector organisations can play an important part in helping us to defeat terrorism, as they are well placed to act as eyes and ears for any suspicious activity.
The same principles also apply to our efforts in reducing business related crime and this partnership approach will ensure that the County of Staffordshire remains a safe place to live, work and visit.‘
Staffordshire Police is keen to hear from any businesses or organisations throughout the County, who would like their staff to be involved in Project Griffin.
